Naples, Feb. 25, 1873 Son of a mechanic, and brought up to father’s trade; as choir boy pupil of Vergine, and later of Lam pert and Concone; after singing at Caserta, made Naples debut 1896; began career, Milan, 1S9S; succe ful seasons at St. Petersburg, Buenos Ayres, Milan, and Monte Carlo followed; first appearance London and New York 190.1; though not distinguished as an actor, C. has a powerful and nch voice, esjiecially suited for brilliant performance of Italian opera, both old and new.
