mor In tannic

[Lat. mor ( us ); suff. -in, and Eng. tannic.] Derived from Morus tinct or i a. [FUSTIC.] mor in tannic-acid, s. Chem.: C13H1006. One of the constituents of old fustic, Morus tinct or i a , extracted from it by boiling water. It crystallizes in light yellow microscopic prisms, slightly soluble in cold water, very soluble in boiling water, in alcohol, and in ether, but insoluble in oil of turpentine. It melts at 200°, but undergoes complete decomposition at 270°, yielding carbonic anhydride, phenol, and pyrocatechin. Its ethereal solution is greenish by reflected, and brown by transmitted, light. mor-1-ồn (1), a supposed Latin (a misreading of mor morion pond Platyn mort on xxxvii. 10, 63).
