Hopkins, Mark

D.D. (Dart mouth College, Hanover, N.H., 1837; Harvard College, Cambridge, Ma ., 1841), LL.D. (University of State of New York, 1857), Congregationalist; b. at Stock bridge, Ma ., Feb. 4, 1802; graduated from Williams College, Williams town, Ma ., 1824; was tutor for two years; studied medicine, and graduated M.D. at the Berks hire Medical College, 1828, and began (1829) practice in New-York City; but in 1830 accepted the call to the profe orship of moral philosophy and rhetoric in AVilliams, and has ever since been connected with the college, as profe or, 1830-36; as president, 1836-72; since, as profe or of intellectual and moral philosophy. From 1836 until 1883 he was the pastor of the college church. Since 1857 he has been president of the American Board of Commi ioners for Foreign Mi ions.
