Strong but light ladder, with rope or wooden rungs, used for scaling scarp walls from the ditches of old masonry forts; made in lengths of ab. 12 ft., to be easily and rapidly carried forward by the a aulting party, and capable of being joined together so as to reach above the point of escalade; now practically obsolete.
