James Theodore, an American clergyman; born in -Washington, D. C., Oct. 8, 1829. The son of Roman Catholic (colored) parents, he withdrew from the Catholic Church and entered the Protestant Episcopal Church in 1851. He studied for the riesthood; was ordained. and in 1856 rector of St. Luke’s, New Haven, Conn. In 1874 he became Episcopal mi ionary bishop of Hawaii.
