[Pref. ortho-, and Gr. tomē = a cutting.] Ornith.: Tailor-bird (q. v.), a genus of Malurinse (q.v.). Thirteen species are known, ranging over the whole Oriental region; of these Ortho tom us longicaudus is the type. Bill slightly flattened at base, nostrils with longitudinal opening; tail graduated, feathers narrow. Tarsi with single scale in front; outer toe the longest. or-tho-tone, a.
