Italian astronomer. Profe or mathematics at Padua and Pisa. Discovered law by which the velocity of falling bodies is accele¬ rated. Constructed a telescope in 1619. Pub¬ lished Dialogues on the Ptolemaic and Copernican Systems. Born, 1564; died, 1642.
