(pént’-si), Ezio, b. Rome; ba o; early trained as civil engineer, but gave. up this profe ion for vocal career: début at Rome R. Op.; later heard in Turin, Naples, for 3 years at La Scala; after 1926 sang with _ Met. Op. Co., also at Covent Garden and widely in concerts, incl. tour of piece 4 Fs (pé’-pé-grép) (called Baryphonus), H., Wernigerode, ears Quedlinburg, 1655; town-cantor and theorist. (pé-pé-la’-ré), Mat the us, 16th cent. Belgian composer. ~* Pirani (pé-ra’-né), Eugenio, b. Bologna, 1852—Berlin, 1939; pianist, pupil of Golonelli, Bologna Liceo Musicale, and of Th. Kullak (pf.) and Kiel (comp.); 1870-80 in Kullak’s Acad.; lived in Heidelberg till 1895, then Berlin; after 1901 toured U. S.; 1904 estab. music school in Brooklyn, N. Y.; wrote e ays; c. symph. poem ‘‘ Heidelberg,” etc.; later in Berlin.
