Lat. palæonisc ( us ); Lat. fem. pl. adj. suff. idœ.] Palæont .: A family of Lep i dog a no ide i; scales rhomboid, tail heterocercal; jaws armed with numerous close-set, minute, rather blunt teeth. Genera, Palæoniscus, Amblypterus, Elonichthys, and Plectrolepis. Range in time, through the Carboniferous and Permian.
