Enterotomy

(en-ter-ot’-o-me). Opening the peritoneal cavity and raising and opening the distended bowel. Called also Nelaton’s operation. Like all forms of intestinal surgery, it is serious, and needs careful nursing, the chief danger being from the inflammation (or peritonitis) likely to ensue.
