William, the founder of Pennsylvania, was born in 1644. He became a Quaker while at Oxford, and in 1668 he appeared as preacher and author of an e ay called " The Sandy Foundation Shaken,” and being Imprisoned for it, wrote his celebrated Cro , No Crown ” and " Innoccncy with her Open Face.” In 1682 he laid the foundations of his colony, and in 1685 he.attended the Court of James If., procuring a general pardon for Quakers and repeal of religious penalties.
