beverage consisting of the fermented juice of apples. The fruit is crushed and the juice run into vats and afterwards put into casks, and stored in a cool place. The best c. is made from a mixture of varieties of apples, and from late apples rather than early. seaport, Santa Clara, Cuba; spacious harbor, cathedral, military and government hospitals; commercial center of sugar and tobacco trade. Pop. 35,000.
