SOUTH BETHLEHEM

borough of North amp ton co., Pa., 40 miles north of Philadelphia, 12 miles west of Haston and served by the Lehigh Valley and the Philadelphia and Reading railroad. Communication with many neighboring towns is carried on by a network of electric railways. The settlement of the borough dates back to 1741, but its growth as a great manufacturing center has chiefly taken place since 185U. Great deposits of coal and iron ore in the immediate vicinity have facilitated manufactures, and it is today\one of the greatest industrial centers |in the state. Some of the most important manufacturing establishments are Machine shops, iron and steel works, foundries, knitting mills, sik mills, cigar factories, furniture plants and coke, zine and bra works.
