Elegit

(él'e-jit.) [L., he has chosen.) (Law.) A writ of execution, founded upon an ancient English statute, and still in use in the U. States, with modifications varying in the several States. It is addre ed to the sheriff, who gives to the judgment-creditor the lands and tenements of the debtor, to be enjoyed by him until the debt is fully paid. [s. 324]
