[Pref. rhyncho, and Gr. spora a seed. Named from the beaked fruit.] Bot .: Beak-rush; the typical genus of the Rhyn chosporide (q. v.). Spikelets few, flowered in axillary or terminal corymbs or panicles, only one or two glumes flowering; bristles six or more, or none. Known species about fifty, from the temperate and tropic regions.
