BIG HORN MOUNTAINS

a spur or range of the Rockies, running north through the north-central part of Wyoming and terminating in southern Montana. The total length of the range is about 120 miles and the width from 30 to 50 miles. It forms a barrier between the Great Plain on the east and the Bighorn Basin on the west. Some of the most rugged and picturesque scenery in the country is found throughout this region. Among the higher ravines may be found small glaciers, while many of the peaks jut over 10,000 feet above sea level, Cloud Peak being 13,000 feet in height. The whole region is heavily timbered, the forests here forming part of the national Bighorn Forest Reservation.
