Paphlagonia

(paf-lah-go'ne-ah.) (Anc. Geog.) A former country of Asia Minor, b. N. by the Euxine, & by Galatia, E. by Pontus, and W. by Bithynia. It became a part of the Lydian empire, B. c. 560-546; of the Persian in 546; of the kingdom of Pontus, 290; and of the Roman p. of Galatia, B. c. 25. Under Const an tine I., 323-337, it became a separate p., with Sinope as its cap. [s. 681]
