(kap'sūl.) [L. capsula, the,dim. of caps a, a box.] (Bot.) Adry seed-ve el, opening by valves or pores. The seed-ve els of the foxglove and the poppy maybe taken as examples.-(Anat.) A fibrous or membraneous bag, such as that which encloses the joints of the hips, shoulder, .-(Med.) A gummy covering for nauseous medicinal doses.-(Chem.) A porcelain or other dish for boiling or evaporating.- A metallic or tin-foil covering, used for rendering bottles of wine, ., impervious to air, as those which cover champagne corks. [s. 142]
