[Pref. lasio- (q. v.), and Gr. ptera, pl. of pterom a feather, a wing.] Entom .: A genus of two-winged flies, family Cecidomyidæ. Las i opter a obfuscata destroys wheat like the Wheat Midge ( Cecidomyia tritici ). They deposit their eggs in the flowers of the plant, on which their maggots feed. They bury themselves in the ground before becoming pupe.
