a physician, and mother were both excellent singers; showed early aptitude for music, studied vln educated at Stan stead Wesley an College; at 19 went to Chicago, clerk m First National Bank, studied singing and harmony with A. E. Ruff, sang m church choir and concerts; 1888 joined the Boston i ans as leading ba o, making debut, as Squire Bantam in Dorothy; with the Boston i ans ten years, created r61e of Scarlett in Rohm Hood sang with Alice Nielsen, Fritzi Seheff and others; 1910 with Victor Herbert’s opera Sweet Sixteen. Has written many songs, the most succe ful being the ballad Forgotten; also five ba songs, A Gipsy King am I, etc.
