Photo-magnetism

(-mag'nět-izm.) The doctrine of the relation existing between light and magnetism. (-tom'e-tur.) [From Gr. phōs, light, and metron, measure.] (Phys.) An apparatus for measuring the intensity of light; or an instrument intended to indicate the different quantities of light on cloudy and bright days, or received by bodies illuminated in different degrees. Instruments for this purpose have been invented by Rumfort, de Sau ure, Leslie, and others. Photo-sculp'ture. A new art, invented recently by M. Willème, a French man. It consists in taking likone es in the form of statuettes and medallions by the aid of photography, and a very ingenious series of acce ory contrivances.
