City of Cambria co., Pa., on the Conemaugh, 78 m. e. of Pittsburg; nearly destroyed May 31, 1889. A reservoir a few miles above the town was swollen by heavy rains, which its waste weir was insufficient to discharge; the earthen IMG:content-0872.jpg:[graphic] The Flood and Dam of Debris at the Railroad Bridge. embankment failed, and a disastrous flood followed. Nearly $4,000,000 worth of property was destroyed, and 2,142 lives are known to have been lost: the number has been much more highly estimated. The town was rebuilt, and has extensive iron-works. Pop., 1890, 21,805.
