[Lat. acid (root of acid us = acid); i connective, and fero to bear.] Bearing or containing an acid. In W. Phillips's distribution of minerals into eight cla es, Acidiferous Earthy Minerals constituted the fourth, Acidiferous Alkaline minerals the fifth, and Acidiferous-Alkaline Earthy minerals the sixth. Under the fourth cla above-named were ranked such minerals as cale spar, gypsum, boracite, witherite, heavy spar, strontianite, .; under his fifth cla were ranked nitre, natron, borax, sal ammoniac, .; and under his sixth, alum, cryolite, and glauberite.
