Gavazzi, A Less Andro

( gah - vat'ze,) an Italian ecclesiastic and orator, born at Bologna in 1809, was admitted into minor orders in the Church of Rome in 1825, and was appointed profe or of rhetoric at Naples, illustrating the theory of the art by his eloquence in the pulpits of the chief Italian cities. He took a prominent part in the Roman insurrection of 1848, and, after the fall of the Holy City, he left Italy an exile and repaired to England, in which country, and afterwards in the U. States, he lectured with brilliant succe . In 1860, Father G. was present with Garibaldi during the expedition to Palermo. Gave, imp . of GIVE, q. v.
