I. a. Pertaining to or having the characters of the Exo glo ina . II. n. A fish of the subfamily Exo glo inæ . Exoglo um (ek-sō-glosʼum), n. [NL., ἐξω , outside, + γλῶσσα , tongue.] An American genus of cyprinoid fishes having the mandibular rami of the lower jaw united in front: so called because this formation resembles a projecting tongue. It typifies the subfamily Exo glo inæ . Rafinesque .
