Island in Gulf of Guinea, lat. 3° 12′ N., long. 3° 48′ E.; discovered 1471; now a Spanish convict station. Its mountains are over 10,000 ft. high. Area 670 sq. m.; pop. ab. 20,000, chiefly negroes of low grade.
