Chem.: C9H1003=CH2(OH)COOH A monobasic aromatic acid prepared by heating mesitylene sulphonic acid with pota ic hydrate at 250°. It crystallizes in silky needles, insoluble in cold water, slightly soluble in boiling water and in alcohol, and melts at 176°. Its salts give a deep blue coloration with ferric chloride.
