Cosmetic

(köz-měťik.) [From Gr. kosmeo,.I adorn.] (Pharm.) Any preparation that renders the skin soft and white, or helps to beautify and improve the complexion. Cosmical, (köz'me-kl.) [From Gr. kosmos, the world.] Generally, relating to the whole system of the universe.-(Astron.) Among the ancients, the term indicated a particular position of a star or planet, at its rising or setting, with respect to the sun. A planet is said to rise or set cosmically when it rises or sets at the same instant with that luminary. C. is opposed to acronycal, q. v. The cosmic al and acronycal rising ofa planet or star are invisible on account of the sun's rays. [s. 233]
