scleroderma (skle-ro-der'mah)

Syn.: scleriasis, hidebound disease. Generally called diffuse symmetrical s. An affection in which large symmetrical areas of skin become diffusely indurated and stiff, it may be without other changes. The ti ues are usually involved also. There are / two forms of s.; the infiltrated and the edematous and atrophic. [Gr., skleros, hard, + derma, skin.] sclero-iodin (skle-ro-i'o-din). An inactive coloring matter extracted from ergot. [Gr., skleros, hard, + iodes, violet.] sclero-iritis (skle"ro-i-ri'tis). Inflammation of sclerotic coat and iris. [Gr., skleros, hard, -+- iris, iris, + it is, inflammation.] scleroma (skle-ro'mah). Induration or hardening of ti ue, especially of the ti ues of the nose and larynx. [Gr., skleros, hard, + oma, tumor.] scleromucin (skle-ro-mu's in). A mixture of substances including ergotinic acid, obtained from ergot. It interferes with absorption of aqueous preparations of ergot. scleropathia sclerosis. (skle-ro-path'e-ah).
