Geometry

That branch of mathematics which investigates the relations, properties and measurements of solids, surfaces, lines, and angles; the science which treats of the properties and relations of magnitudes. Its usefulne extends to almost every art and science. It is by the a istance of geometry that engineers conduct all their works, take the situation and plans of towers, the distances of places, and the measure of such things as are only acce ible to the sight. It is not only an introduction to fortification, but highly nece ary to mechanics. On geometry, likewise, depends the theory of gunnery, mining, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, etc.
