A shower occurring while the sun is shining unobscured. *sun-smitten, a. Smitten or lighted by the rays of the sun. "Sun-smitten Alps." -Tennyson: Daisy, 62. sun-spot, 8. Astron. ( pl .): Certain dark spots seen by the aid of a telescope on the surface of the sun's photosphere. In a normal spot there is an exterior shade called the penumbra, an inner darker one called the umbra, and very often one deeper still in the center called the nucleus.
