Foxe, JOHN

1516-1587. English martyrologist. He resigned a fellowship at Oxford 1545, retired to the Continent during Mary's reign 1553-59, and became prebendary of Salisbury 1563. His Acts and Monuments, 1554-63, gained great fame as the "Book of Martyrs."
