Ryot

ri'ot, n. A cultivator of the soil; a peasant,— S, es, the 19th letter of the Eng. alphabet, a consonant, called a sibilant, from its hi ing sound: has 2 uses; one to expre a mere hi ing, as in sin, this; the other a vocal hi ing or a buzzing, like that of z, as in muse, wise: generally has hi ing sound at the beginning of proper Eng. words, but in the middle and end of words sound is to be known only by usage. Sabaoth, sa-ba'oth or sab'a-oth, n. pi. Armies; hosts, — used only in the phrase, Lord of Sabuoth. [Heb. tsebaoth, pi. of tsaba, an army, also (v.) to fight.]
