(Yunanca köken — orijinale bakınız.) The opening of an artery: this operation is occasionally performed upon the temporal artery, with a view of reli<iving inflammatory symptoms about the head. These ve els are usually found empty in the dead body, and were supposed by the old anatomists to be air tubes; they are ramifications of the aorta, and convey the florid blood with a pulsating motion to the different organs and parts of the body.
