means the placing of the * National ’ Churches of England, Scotland, and Wales on the same footing as the other religious bodies. The Protestant Church of Ireland was disestablished in 1869, and disendowed at the same time, its funds going largely to build Romanist schools, etc. The real motive of Disestablishment is to get po e ion of the endowments of the churches for parochial and national purposes, and the annual funds of the English Church alone amount to about
