regnal

[Lat. regn (um)=a kingdom; Eng. adj. suff. -al.] Of or pertaining to the reign of a sovereign; used spec if. of the years a sovereign has reigned. It was formerly the custom to date public documents, ., from the year of the acce ion of the reigning monarch. This practice still prevails in Britain in citing Acts of Parliament "Monuments which mention the regnal year of the king in whose reign they were executed are also precious."-Atheneum, Aug. 23, 1884, p. 246.
