Demidoff

or DEMIDOV, (děm'e-dof,) ano ble and wealthy Ru ian house, was founded by a skilful artificer in iron, high in favor with Peter the Great, and whose descendants discovered the Ural gold-fields in 1725.-ANATOLE, PRINCE D., B. 1812, acquired distinction as a patron of literature and the arts, and married Prince MathildeBonaparte, cousin of the Emperor Napoleon III.
