Gyges

(ji'jeez,) founder of the Mermuade dynasty after the murder of his patron Candaules, king of Lydia, usurped his throne which he filled about 38 years. He is said to have owned a magic ring which made the wearer invisible. D. 680 B. c. [s. 432]
