pl. [Modern Latin rhinochet(us); Lat. fem. pl. adj. suff. -idœ.] Ornithology: In older cla ifications a family of Gralle, with one genus Rhinochetus (q. v.). rhi-no-che-ti-næ, s. pl. [Modern Latin rhino chet( us ); Lat. fem. pl. adj. suff. -inæ. ] Ornith.: A sub-family of Gruide, with one genus, Rhinochetus (q. v.), though Sun devall places here the genus Ped i on or nus of Gould, sometimes cla ed with the Charadriide and sometimes with the Turn i cide. rhi-no-che-tus, subst. [Prefix rhino-, and Gr. chaite long, flowing hair.] Ornith.: The sole genus of the sub-family Rhinochetinse, with a single species, Rhinochetus jubatus , from New Caledonia. It is a bird of a bluish ash color, partaking somewhat of the appearance of a Rail, a Plover, and a Heron.
