Mucilage-Cells

Cells whose walls have undergone the mucilaginous modification, or whose contents are themselves of this nature. IMG:content-1454.png:[blocks in formation] epithelial mentary, respiratory, and genito-urinary mucous membrane. They present certain structural peculiarities according to the functions they perform. In general, they consist of an external epithelial layer resting on a thin, transparent basement membrane, and beneath this a stratum of vascular ti ue containing the glands, and, in the gastro-intestinal tract, the villi. They furnish the medium through which most all material changes in the organism are effected, and at the same time furnish protection.
