1568. Thomas. Earl of E ex, was bom, in 1490. He was Cardinal Wolsey’s confidential Kings servant, and at the former’s death entered the service, was knighted, and made privy councillor. In 1535 he was appointed visitor-general to all English monasteries in order to suppre them, for which service lie was made Baron Cromwell. He fell into disgrace for promoting the King's marriage with Anne of Cleves and he was beheaded on charge of treason in 154a
