[Gr. a , priv., and ski a , shadow.] A term applied to those inhabitants of the globe who at certain times of the year have no shadow. Such are the inhabitants of the torrid zone, where the sun being twice a year in its zenith - in other words, being perpendicular to their heads - no projecting shadow is thrown.
