BALANITIS

(Lat.) n. f. Ba?l(basl)-a?n(a>n)i(e)'ti?s. Gen., balanit'idis. Gr, Bad a vires (fem, of Badavirms). Fr., balanite (2d def.). Ger., Eichelentziindung (24 def.). It., balanite (2d def.). Sp., balanitis (2d def.). 1. An ancient name for an acorn-shaped kind of nut. [Pliny (A, 311. 312).] 2. A superficial inflammation of the glans penis, often involving also the inner surface of the premice, It is attended with erosion of the epithelium and a whitish or yellowish, offensive discharge, which consists of epithelium, sebaceous matter, and pus. It is sometimes a ociated with gonorrhea. [G.|—B. blennorrhoica. See Gonorrhæal b—B. diahetica. B. due to the irritation of saccharine urine. [L, 54.]— Gonorrheal h. Lat., gonorrhea balani. Fr, blennorrhagie balano-préputiale, blennorrhée du gland. Ger., Ficheltripper.
