tylostyle (tilostil)

[ form, knobbed at one end and pointed at the other. tylostylus (tī-lō-stīʻlus), n.; pl. tylostyli (-lī). [NL.:: see tylostyle.] ] Atylostyle. Tylosurus (tī-lō-sū'rus), 'rus), n. [NL. (Cocco), irreg. nus of garfishes, of the family Belonidæ, differing from Belone in the absence of gill-rakers and vomerine teeth. These gars are comparatively large (3 or 4 feet long) voracious fishes of most seas. The species are numerous, and some of them, as T. longirostris (or mar in us ), are known as bill - fish and needle- fish, from the long sharp jaws. See cut under Belonidæ.
