Bacchus

(bak'küs.) (Myt.) The god of wine, and the same as the Greek Dionysus, was a son of Jupiter and Semele, or, according to other accounts, of Ammon, king of Libya, and of A mal the a. He is usually represented as an effeminate young man crowned with vine-and ivy leaves, with a thyrsus in his hand. [s. 66]
