They extend for a distance of about five miles, rising in most places vertically from the water's edge to a height of from 50 to 200 feet, there being no beach whatever. They are worn into you sands of strange forms, colored deep brown, yellow and gray, bright blue and green. In one place there stands a majestic profile looking toward the north-a woman's face, called "the Empre of the Lake."
