A large reduvioid bug, Prionidus cristatus, common throughout Wheel-bug ( Prionidus cristatus ) , female, natural size. the southern United States, having a semicircular toothed thoracic crest like a cogged wheel.. It is predaceous, and destroys great numbers of injurious insects, such as willow-slugs, web-worms, cut-worms, and cotton-caterpillars. Also called devil's - riding -horse.
