hept a teuch

[Gr. hept a =seven, and teuchos =a book.] The first seven books of the Old Testament. hěp-têne, s . [Gr. hept a =seven; suff.-ene.] Chem.: C7H14. Heptylene: a name given to hydrocarbons of the olefine series, containing seven carbon atoms. A hydrocarbon having this formula occurs in the light coal-tar oils obtained by the distillation of cannel coal. Also obtained by treating heptyl aldehyde with PC15, and gently heating the resulting heptylene chloride with sodium, it boils at 99°.
