Nucleobranchiata (nukleobrangkiata)

pl. [NL.: see nucleobranchiate.] A group of mollusks: used with various senses. (a) In De Blainville's cla ification (1824), the last one of five orders of the second section of his Paracephalophora monoica, divided into two families, Nectopoda and Pteropod a. The term is generally held to be a synonym of Heteropod a, but it is partly a synonym of Pteropod a, and these two groups are not exactly distinguished in the two families into which the author divides his nucleobranchs. Moreover, the order does not contain the genus Cavolinia, which is pteropod ous, and does contain the genus Argonaut a, which is cephalopodous. It therefore corresponds to no natural group, and is disused.
