Argot

(Fr.; a ˙ r-gō), the jargon, slang, or peculiar phraseology of a cla or profe ion; originally the conventional slang of thieves and vagabonds, invented for the purpose of disguise and concealment. Some of François Villon's poems are written in argot.—Cf. W. von Knoblauch, Dictionary of Argot .
